The start of 2018

Happy Almost March.

It has been WAYYY to long since I have written a blog post. I cannot believe you all let me go so long! What’s up with that??! 😉

I figured since it has been a while I will update you on me and some products that I am loving.

  • Currently we have about two weeks until we get to meet baby girl Madilyn! YUP. That is right, who would have know that pregnancy would go by so fast?

BRITF_12

She is not really a picture taking type of girl yet…. She is tucked away safely with a hand over her face most of the time, plus I think she was grumpy that we were trying to move her, so this is as good as it got.

Enough about me already… you came to see what products that I am loving currently!!

20180226_115643

  1. First up is the Not your Mothers dry shampoo. This is the first dry shampoo I have found that will work AMAZINGLY well with my brunette hair. What I do is wash my hair every other day, and on the the days I do not wash it spray this in it. It takes away all the greasy looking spots that annoy the mess out of me!
  2. Next is the Pacifica makeup removing wipes. These wipes are AMAZE-BALLS! They actually take all the makeup off of my face. I use them before going to bed at night, which makes for a super easy make-up-taking-off-routine.
  3. I have seen a lot of other people talk about this L’Oreal Infallible liquid makeup at decided to give it a try. It is super inexpensive compared to other liquid makeup that is on the market. I think I got it for $11 dollars at Target. This is the kind of liquid foundation that works best for me because it feels like you have nothing on, but looks SO good on. It gives you the perfect glow without having to contour… and let’s be honest I have never even attempted it 😉

Last, but definitely not least is the Elemis Superfood facial wash. I was sent a sample of this facial wash and I. LOVE. IT! I use it mostly in the mornings, but you can use it mornings and nights. The smell of this stuff is awesome and from the moment you lather it onto your face you know it is cleaning your face really well. I will link their website below.

Current Offers – Every order gets a free sample, every order has free shipping and free mini with a $30 purchase.

Also, this facial wash is a steal at only $25.00!

I hope you give some of these products a try and let me know what you think!

XOXO

Famously Hot Pink Half

26.2 or 30?

When I last blogged I was in the RUNNING to become an half fanatic. I was doing 3 half marathons in 90 days. Neptune status. Unfortunately, my last half was a DNF.

Blah. So it happens. It is what it is and has made me a better runner because of it. (Or at least I hope it did).

With summer came a lot of heat and hurting. I took a majority of summer off because there was just no way I could keep off and still love running as much as I did after that heatwave. I think it got up to only one million degrees.

runningecard-1

Just like every good come back, I have signed up to run a half in Columbia October 22nd. It is the Famously Hot Pink Half Marathon supporting breast cancer research. I will leave a picture below of the amazing ROSE GOLD!!!!! medal. What a beauty to add to my collection.

famously-hot-pink-half-marathon-finishers-medal

Beautiful isn’t it? I wish the box came with it…. 🙂

Now I will get to the real reason of this blog post. 26.2 or 30 miles? Which should I do? After next weekend I will have ran 4 half marathons. I want to upgrade. But to which distance? There is this amazingly awesome “race/walk” called the Loco Motion that I wrote about a few months ago (see previous post) and then there is Disney World’s Marathon. Decisions decisions. Have I mention I am a huge indecisive person?

What would you choose as your first super long distance goal? Have you done either race? What is your opinions? Leave them below.

The countdown is on! My first stop to qualifying as a Half Fanatic was the Run Hard Columbia Marathon event (I ran the half).

Second on the stop is the Women’should Publix Half Marathon. This will be my first race in Savannah, or run, but I have heard it is flat! That is always a good thing isn’t it??!!

Last but definitely not least, is my hometown’s half marathon. I ran it last year and it was my first ever half!

39.3 miles of fun, friendship and hard work. Can’t wait to update you guys on the Savannah trip and my Fanatics numbers when I get it!!

Wish me luck,

Run Hard.

Run Hard.

20160305_110654

I try to wait until at least 24 hours before reviewing a race. Why you ask? Well, if I wrote how I felt during the race, it would be a lot like “Why did I sign up? I hate running, who talked me into this, this was the hardest course EVER”. After it would be like “Woo-hoo I am alive, I love this feeling, that was not so hard”, but 24 hours after it I can look back and see how I really felt, how I was really feeling and can give you a better image of how it was.

Run Hard Columbia Marathon was March 5th, 2016.It includes a 5k, half marathon, marathon, marathon relay and a Kids 2k race. Talk about a lot of options! I chose the half. Next year I might have to talk someone into the marathon relay with me…

IMG_20160304_193840

I ended up wearing shorts (with compression shorts underneath), Pro Compression socks, a razor (racer not sure which is right) shirt and a thin pull over from Target. Side note: If you have not tried Target’s athletic apparel then stop reading and GO NOW! Just kidding, at least finish reading my blog post, then go!) It was a little cool to begin with, but once you get going it gets heated quickly.

The course was beyond beautiful. There was plenty to look at and keep your mind off how hilly this place really is. The first mile was great. I ran the whole thing, then started intervals. The second mile was dreadful. I swear it was straight up the whole time. At least that is what it felt like. Miles 3-10 were great. Not too hilly, just enough to keep you on your toes. Mile 10-11 was Gervais street. If you have not been to Columbia, SC yet, then I would suggest driving and look at it.Now, I must warn you, I had hardly any hill training in my runs, which I wish I had now. That street killed me. I was whopped after Gervais. I had to walk the last 2 miles, but I would now and then try to pick an object in the distance and run to that, then walk.

Other than the last 3 miles, Run Hard Columbia Marathon was an amazing race. I was very surprised at the crowd and the runners. Yesterday I told my friends there was NO WAY I would run it again, but I could be easily persuaded. I did not get the PR I was hoping for, but I made it up Gervais street and completed the race. What more could I ask for?

Five words that best describe Run Hard Columbia Marathon: hilly, beautiful, safe, energetic, hard.

This was my first half by myself. Have you ever run 13.1 with no one with you? How do you prepare? If you have ran Run Hard Columbia let me know your experience below!

OH! And let’s not forget my post-race meal! Shealy’s BBQ 🙂

Hot Chocolate 15K

Hot, Hot, Hot…

IMG_2581

Justttt kidding! There was nothing hot about this past weekends Hot Chocolate 15k. Has any of my readers been to a Hot Chocolate 5k/15k event? Let me tell you, IT. WAS. AMAZING! My friend and I had a blast and I cannot wait to tell you how our weekend went. Sit back, grab some hot chocolate and get ready for a sweet ride.

It all stared month and months ago. You normally find out about these awesome races months in advance. To me, the best time to buy a race bib is right when the race opens. The best prices are always when they first open, and that is how I usually get in trouble by signing up for so many! Whoops. When Googling the Hot Chocolate race the first thing you see is a race JACKET! WHAT?? A free race jacket? YES, PLEASE. After seeing this sweet jacket, you have the option of earning a MEDAL! Yes, you heard right. A jacket and a medal. Sign me up and take all my money. (5k=no medal, 15k=medal) Of course if you are “CrAzY” like me, you would sign up for the 15k option.

Fast forward to Friday night.. It was a normal day, work, work, work, pack, unpack, and repack. (I did not want to leave anything) Woke up Saturday to snow on the ground! You heard right! SNOW. Yuck. After a late start we finally got on the road for the 2.5 hour drive. It was a smooth ride, the snow was there one minute gone the next. We arrived around 1 o’clock to the Expo. It was at the Georgia World Congress Center. That place was huge. They had the Hot Chocolate Expo, a cheer leading competition, graduation and I am sure other things going on at the same time. We probably walked a mile just to get where the Expo was. (There might have been some exaggerating in that!!) There were a ton of vendors with anything from headbands to compression socks. They had you covered if you needed anything. I ended up purchasing an “America’s Sweetest Race” long-sleeve T shirt. You get a medal and a jacket with bib purchase..but no shirt! Come on HC!

IMG_2588

After packet pick-up we ended up going to check into our hotel and then grabbing dinner. I suggest the Hilton Garden Inn by the Atlanta Airport. It was super convenient to everything and even closer to Turner Field. Once we got settled in and ready for bed we got the unnerving e-mail that the 15kers might not get to run the race. The temperature had dipped down in the 20’s and the morning of the race the temp felt like 17!! Talk about COLLLLDDDDDD. Luckily we went to Walmart before heading back to the hotel for me another pair of yoga pants, hand-warmers and bagels. We managed to find some emergency blankets, which are like tin foil, so we got a pair of those.

IMG_2595

The morning of the race IT. WAS. COLD. I am talking super cold. It would not have been as bad if the wind was not blowing, but of course it was. We got to Turner Field super early just so we could get a good parking space. Two hours in a semi-cold car and emergency tin foil blankets make for great conversation and great laughs.

Standing outside waiting for our wave was the worst. Nothing would prepare you for standing in your corral waiting 10 plus minutes..not even tin foil or hand warmers. We did manage to see an amazingly good tip to share. A girl with duct tape on the top of her shoes. The part that air easily goes into..who would have thought to tape those?? Thanks girls in front of us!! We are definitely shared that with our running group 🙂

IMG_2604

After all the blood was lost from our toes and you could barely feel them it was time to begin our race. Ahhh, about time! BURR. Once we got going it was a little crowded, that usually happens when your a slow tortoise like me!! The first couple of miles were a blast. The first stop had strawberry marshmallows and Nuun/water. Once we got to about mile 1.5 we had the option to split from the 5kers to run the 15k route. WOOHOO! We did not miss the cut off. (I am still not 100% sure if they cut anyone off, I have not talked to anyone else that might have been cut off). Next stop was M&Ms. They handed you a cup of tiny of the candy and then Nuun or water. I ate a few of them but then in reality its not good to eat chocolate while running..at least for me it is not. Let us just fast forward to mile 8. I like to call it “mile to heaven”. It was a straight up hill. Literally. All. The. Way. Up. If you have not run in Atlanta, then no judging. They always say run with your heart and not your legs. Well, my heart broke on that mile. I walked up that hill as much as a I could, then went snail pace. My heart was fast repaired when I could hear the announcers cheering runners on. The coolest part of this race was the announcer would pull up your bib number and say “Go Brittany — you are almost home — you got this!!” and the crowd got into it. After crossing the finish line I almost lost it. I have never wanted a race to be done like that before. The cold was taking its tole and I just needed my hot chocolate. Once I got the first couple of sips I knew I was going to be OK.

The after-party was just as cool. Once you got your mug filled with goodies, you got to dance out your cold joints and get pictures with some awesome props. We sorta walked fast through these things since we needed to stretch and showers. Even with it feeling like 17 degrees I still stunk!

IMG_2622.JPG

Overall, I would grade the Hot Chocolate Atlanta race an 80/100. The corrals were a little jumbled up. I think the Expo needed a little bigger room. It was a little crowded when we got there and not many people who move. The Atlanta Police Department gets a huge high five from me for putting up with us crazies and keeping us safe. I tried to thank every one when we went by. A little suggestion for races…take all kinds of options for weather. I was expecting 55 degree weather and got 25. And last but not least, be a blessing for someone else. I am glad we were able to purchase a few extra hand-warmers to give out to unexpected cold runners.

How was your Hot Chocolate race experience? I bet it was not as cold as ours!

Dinner

What’s for dinner??!

IMG_9162 (1)

If your like me..you are normal. HA! I am probably like millions of other people who have absolutely no idea what they will have for dinner at night. Sometimes I will think of what we have when I am working and figure something out, other days I am SO busy during the day we either starve or go for take-out. Tonight is no different. While working today I though, hmmm what should I cook for dinner. I have sand which meat that is possibly going to go bad in the next few days and left over rolls from the night we had mini hamburgers. YUM. Anyways, so the story goes..

The hubby went to the grocery store and asked what I needed. Nothing babe. I have everything we need at the house–minus the poppy seeds (let’s face it those things are like gold in price. Why are they so expensive?) When I got home I noticed I did not have everything I needed. No Worcestershire sauce and no poppy seeds! What ever will I do?? Make them my own way of course. I have always looked at recipes and changed them. I guess its the whole following the rules thing that I do not like. (Sorry Mom!)

I will attached the “real” version below, but here is how I made them.

A spoon full of butter, a squirt of yellow mustard, salt & pepper (ahhh push it), garlic and onion powder, and a palm full of onions.

Melt the butter, then add in all the ingredients above^^

While doing all of that, heat the oven to 350 degrees. If you are using rolls that need to be cut then cut them. Then add the meat and cheese that baby up! I used shredded mix cheese, really wish I had the swiss cheese but oh well.

After all the insides are stuff then add the BEST. PART. The liquid mix of goodness. (The onion, worcestershire sauce, butter sauce if you didn’t catch that)

Put all the yummy goodness in the preheated oven for 15 minutes covered with tin foil. Uncover and cook for another 5ish minutes for all the cheese and yummy smells to come out of the oven. And WALLLAA!! Yummy goodness for the whole family. My opinion is they are AMAZINGGGGG. They say you can put them in the freezer and eat later, but I am pretty sure these will not last that long. I would tell you Matthew’s opinion but he is currently fixing somethin’ outside. Such a man.

http://www.kingshawaiian.com/recipes/hawaiian-ham–swiss-slider/

^^There is the link for the “real” recipe. Is there even such things?

What is your favorite go-to-cheap-meal? Are you normal like me and wait until the last minute to think about dinner? When is payday again???

Camper remodel

Happy Campers

image image image image image image image image image image

When Matthew and I started dating our first trip was to Edisto. (If you have never been GO! It is seriously my favorite place in the world). His Mom had a pop-up camper. After going on a weekend trip I was hooked. We finally bit the bullet and got one for ourselves. It is a cute little 1992 pop-up that we remodeled. We (and what I mean by “we” is Matthew doing the hard work and me picking out the decorations) picked it up on a Saturday and the following Saturday it was ready to go on the very first Freeman Beach Trip.

When we got the camper it had a table and a sink (boo–I forgot to take some before pictures but I can help you imagine it with my amazing words). It was very cramped in space. Even with the two of us and the dog we knew that the table and sink would probably not get used often. So out it came. That opened the floor space right up! We kept the table top since it had a hook to be set up as an outdoor table to eat at. After taking out the table we needed some place to sit, so Matthew built an L-shaped bench. Building it was not too hard since he is an amazing handy-man. The top of the bench opens up and there is storage to put our chairs, outdoor carpet and anything else we need to store.

Since the floor had been the same since 1992 it needed a little updating. We put down hardwood floors that were purchased from Home Depot. I want to say it took one to two boxes, but do not quote me on that. Like I said before I was just the interior decorator not the craftsman. After that put a little pant on the walls and BAM instant cuteness! Our little camper is perfect for the three of us. (Two humans and a dog).

Now here is where I come in… DECORATING. We went to Augusta and bought everything we needed. Tons of it. Anything cute and girly got in my cart. Purple bed sheets, books to read on vacation, accent pillows, solar powered flags. You catch my drift.

Once you get a camper and camp for the first time you will have a list of things you forgot and/or need for the next trip. We went pretty basic on the first trip but do not worry we have a list of things we want. Luxury items. Like an outdoor shower, nice chairs, etc.

Before we knew it our vacation was here! It was our first time with Romo on vacation so we chose to stay at the Tuck in the Woods. We had been there before with my MIL’s camper so we knew it would be quiet and cozy. It is about 10 minutes, if that, to Hunting Island campground. You pay to go into the Hunting Island State Park. We could have stayed in the camp ground, but being that it was our first trip and we did not know how Romo would be (being the big baby he is–he wines when we walk away from him–I know, I know SPOILED). It ended up being perfect for us and we have been back since. I love Tuck in the Woods. The bath-house is nice, it is quite, just feels like a good family camp ground. It is not too far from downtown Beaufort and just down the street is the beach. What more could you ask for on your first trip? Go! You will not regret it.

http://www.tuckinthewood.com/

What is something you left behind and needed on your trip? Our first time we forgot bug spray. Can we say Ouch? Leave your comments below! I would love to know what camp grounds are your favorite and which to stay away from.
