Camper remodel

Happy Campers

When Matthew and I started dating our first trip was to Edisto. (If you have never been GO! It is seriously my favorite place in the world). His Mom had a pop-up camper. After going on a weekend trip I was hooked. We finally bit the bullet and got one for ourselves. It is a cute little 1992 pop-up that we remodeled. We (and what I mean by “we” is Matthew doing the hard work and me picking out the decorations) picked it up on a Saturday and the following Saturday it was ready to go on the very first Freeman Beach Trip.

When we got the camper it had a table and a sink (boo–I forgot to take some before pictures but I can help you imagine it with my amazing words). It was very cramped in space. Even with the two of us and the dog we knew that the table and sink would probably not get used often. So out it came. That opened the floor space right up! We kept the table top since it had a hook to be set up as an outdoor table to eat at. After taking out the table we needed some place to sit, so Matthew built an L-shaped bench. Building it was not too hard since he is an amazing handy-man. The top of the bench opens up and there is storage to put our chairs, outdoor carpet and anything else we need to store.

Since the floor had been the same since 1992 it needed a little updating. We put down hardwood floors that were purchased from Home Depot. I want to say it took one to two boxes, but do not quote me on that. Like I said before I was just the interior decorator not the craftsman. After that put a little pant on the walls and BAM instant cuteness! Our little camper is perfect for the three of us. (Two humans and a dog).

Now here is where I come in… DECORATING. We went to Augusta and bought everything we needed. Tons of it. Anything cute and girly got in my cart. Purple bed sheets, books to read on vacation, accent pillows, solar powered flags. You catch my drift.

Once you get a camper and camp for the first time you will have a list of things you forgot and/or need for the next trip. We went pretty basic on the first trip but do not worry we have a list of things we want. Luxury items. Like an outdoor shower, nice chairs, etc.

Before we knew it our vacation was here! It was our first time with Romo on vacation so we chose to stay at the Tuck in the Woods. We had been there before with my MIL’s camper so we knew it would be quiet and cozy. It is about 10 minutes, if that, to Hunting Island campground. You pay to go into the Hunting Island State Park. We could have stayed in the camp ground, but being that it was our first trip and we did not know how Romo would be (being the big baby he is–he wines when we walk away from him–I know, I know SPOILED). It ended up being perfect for us and we have been back since. I love Tuck in the Woods. The bath-house is nice, it is quite, just feels like a good family camp ground. It is not too far from downtown Beaufort and just down the street is the beach. What more could you ask for on your first trip? Go! You will not regret it.

What is something you left behind and needed on your trip? Our first time we forgot bug spray. Can we say Ouch? Leave your comments below! I would love to know what camp grounds are your favorite and which to stay away from.
